Chandler Mori Hamada advised CIMB Thai on the first subordinated green capital securities issued by a bank in Thailand

These unique hybrid debt capital instruments qualify for inclusion as Tier 2 capital for Thai commercial banks, in compliance with international green bond principles, a first for the Thai market. The capital securities have a 10-year maturity with a fixed interest rate of 3.90% per annum, with quarterly payments. The proceeds from the securities will be used to bolster CIMBT’s Tier 2 capital and to fund eligible environmental projects. This aligns with the bank’s commitment to sustainability. The securities were offered to institutional investors and high-net-worth investors, raising THB 2,000 million.

The team from Chandler Mori Hamada was led by Doungporn Prasertsomsuk, Partner. She was supported by associates Poonpha Moosirilert, Pradchayada Maneeratanapron and Onpreeya Kitcharoen.

Doungporn Prasertsomsuk, Partner, commented, “We are delighted with the success of this pioneering Tier 2 capital securities issuance. Such securities not only support the financial stability of the bank but also contribute to environmental sustainability. We hope that this initiative will encourage the development of other innovative securities in the market, addressing both financial needs and the collective effort of the business community to help mitigate climate change.”

Recognized as an innovative leader in Thailand’s debt capital markets, Doungporn Prasertsomsuk has been consistently ranked top-tier by independent global legal publications, cementing her status as a leader in the field.
