Chandler MHM Limited (CMHM) advised on the amalgamation of CAT Public Company Limited and TOT Public Company Limited into National Telecom Public Company Limited with combined total assets worth USD10billion. This is the first amalgamation of two privatized state owned enterprises in Thailand. This being a first in the market, the size of the enterprises, the nature of state enterprises, tight timeline and regulatory issues made this a very challenging transaction. The new company arising from the amalgamation will be better positioned to compete in an increasingly competitive telecommunications market place by creating synergies between the two former enterprises.
